Santa Cruz Reserve wheels are built on the highest quality carbon rims on the market. Their rims are backed up by a lifetime warranty, just like Santa Cruz's bike frames. Everything from the thickness of the rim beads to the external spoke hole reinforcements comes purely from Santa Cruz's experience of knowing what riders need at every level—from international racing to your local trails.
Santa Cruz warranty claims are among the lowest in the business and job one with the wheels was strength and reliability. The sidewalls are fatter than most other wheels I've seen for added burl. Beefing up the area around the spoke holes saved weight overall allowing for a smaller wall thickness between spokes. That weight savings was put into the rim bead where most failures occur. Santa Cruz tells us industry average is 2.7mm while the Reserve 30 in 27.5 is a full 3.5mm thick.
After strength and reliability, feel was next on the priority list. After many prototypes Santa Cruz decided the golden ratio was 1.5:1.
Santa Cruz has made simplicity a priority and there are no proprietary bits included. The wheels are built with j-bend spokes and have externally accessible nipples that feature a mechanical lock for increased durability. Both front and rear, the wheels feature 28 spokes. With carbon generally being stiffer than alloy, the lower spoke count could help balance compliance and strength.
DT Swiss produced the 240s Center Lock to meet the demand for a durable hub with the ability to endure corrosive environments and disc brake punishment.
DT Swiss utilizes its patented star ratchet system known for high load carrying capacity and reliability. The star ratchet system can be easily upgraded from 18 to 36 or 54 points of engagement. The DT Swiss 240s Center Lock hub has a robust design compatible with a wide variety of thru-axle and QR systems. The 240s Center Lock hub is easily converted between axle options using a DT Swiss Conversion Kit and the Park Tool AV-5 axle vice with soft jaws.
This hub uses a center lock rotor mounting design that can be converted to ISO 6 bolt using the DT Swiss Center Lock IS (6-bolt) Adapter.
