The higher heat dissipation of the aluminum helps to reduce the surface temperature of the rotor by around 100 degrees Celsius. Optional Ice-Tech brake pads with aluminum cooling fins can reduce the brake pad surface temperature by another 50 degrees. The result is high stopping power and practically no signs of fading! While the improved weight reduction of 5 or 10 grams of the 140 or 160 mm discs represents a particular advance, the 180 and 203 mm versions were characterized in intensive tests by a further improvement in heat dissipation of 20 °C and are also pleasantly restrained on the scale (203 mm: minus 30 grams). This effective heat management while braking is achieved by the sandwich structure (stainless steel - aluminium - stainless steel) improving braking performance and reliability. The result is first-class and consistent braking even in the most demanding conditions.
